LUBBOCK –Washington, D.C. – President Biden announced new immigration actions that will provide temporary permission for undocumented spouses of U.S. citizens and some children under age 21 to remain in the U.S. while they pursue permanent legal status. Some DACA recipients will also qualify for streamlined paths to work visas under the new executive actions.
Felipe Benítez, Executive Director of Corazón Latino, issued the following statement:
“President Biden, through his executive action, has transformed the American Dream for hundreds of thousands of mixed-status American families across the country. By offering opportunities to adjust their immigration status domestically, eligible families will be able to shed unnecessary immigration burdens and chart new legacies for themselves, their spouses, and their children.
“Today's actions affirm that families belong together and that pathways to citizenship make us a stronger nation. We delight in this remarkable turning point for so many families and we celebrate that they now have hope for a brighter, more prosperous future together. We strongly encourage anyone seeking immigration protections to consult with a trusted immigration lawyer to determine the best course of action for their specific case.
“Finally, we call on Congress to listen to calls for immigration relief and to emulate Biden's leadership by establishing pathways to citizenship to help the millions of undocumented community members who fall beyond the scope of these executive actions.”
