Lubbock Habitat Announces the 2023 Blitz Build

Lubbock Habitat will hold a Blitz Kickoff Event this Thursday, March 30th at 2 p.m. at their construction site located at 3317 East Dartmouth Street to officially announce the 2023 Blitz Build. The Blitz Build will kick off on Labor Day, September 4th and run through September 15th. Lubbock Habitat volunteers and staff hope to build three houses in twelve days.

The Blitz Build takes place each September and helps Lubbock Habitat for Humanity fulfill the Habitat vision that all people deserve a safe and decent place to live. Multiple local companies, churches, and organizations are jumping on board to help support the Blitz Build with donations and offers to volunteer. A local volunteer committee has also been working to plan the logistics and work out construction details.

To reach the goal of building three houses, Lubbock Habitat needs sponsors and monetary and in-kind donations to fund the cost of the construction as well as providing meals for volunteers.

In addition to funding, at least 150 volunteers are needed each day of the Blitz to stay on schedule and complete as much of the construction as possible in twelve days. Anyone who is 18 and up can help Habitat with no previous skills required. Volunteer sign ups will be available soon at lubbockhabitat.org.

Habitat Executive Director Christy Reeves says, “Affordable housing is a huge need in Lubbock. Habitat is attempting to build 4-6 homes a year and this Blitz Build is a fun and efficient way to help achieve that goal. If any business, individual, church, or organization can assist with donations or time, we need the help!”

Additionally, Lubbock Habitat continues to run the ReStore, located at 3630 50th Street, where new and gently used furniture, appliances, decor, and clothing are accepted. All the money that is raised in the ReStore goes back into supporting the Lubbock Habitat mission. The ReStore is open 10-6 p.m. M-Saturday.
