Republican bill tightening Texas election laws is Un-American
Governor Abbott Should Be Fighting Pandemic Not Destroying Our Civil Liberties
Texas: Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 1. This terrible law rewrites Texas election laws, making it much harder to vote-by-mail, process, and outlaw certain local voting initiatives meant to widen access, namely those pushed by Harris County that were disproportionately used by voters of color.
Mi Familia Vota Texas State Director Angelica Razo released the following statement in response to this sad development:
Texas is in the throes of a pandemic that is spiraling out of control, people are dying, children are getting sick. And our governor is spending a lot of time, going out of his way to make sure that communities of color are not able to vote. This is outrageous, our state needs solutions to real problems, not political theater to solve non-existent voting issues. America is a democracy, as such, we should help people vote, provide solutions to access, not make things harder. This is a sad day for Texas and our country.
